EVTT

Background

The historically often separated fields of biology, medicine and pharmacology, together with applied drug discovery, are uniquely combined in the EV-TT Transfer Center. The regional research expertise of Paracelsus Medical University (PMU), Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) and University Hospital (SALK) in the field of technology development for the therapeutic use of extracellular vesicles will be bundled and made available to research and business partners.

The simultaneous development of new therapeutic and analytical tools requires bundling and utilizing the existing, comprehensive expertise in order to cover all aspects of the future development of the products during the development process and to drive developments forward. The established GMP laboratory in Salzburg for the pharmaceutical production of novel cell-based therapies at the Spinal Cord Injury and Tissue Regeneration Center Salzburg of the Paracelsus Medical University (SCI-TReCS - PMU) forms the technological core infrastructure of the EV-TT Transfer Center together with the research groups that are represented in the consortium. The working group "Chemical Biology and Biological Therapeutics" at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) focuses on application-oriented basic research using EVs as a transport vehicle for therapeutically relevant drugs. In the past few years, a strong interlinked center has been established at the Paracelsus Medical University and the University Hospital in Salzburg, which has gained international recognition for its expertise in the pharmaceutical manufacturing and development of new therapeutics from human source material. Distinctive advantages provided by this infrastructure are the possibility for production of therapeutics in a pharmaceutical environment with accompanying GMP-compliant documentation, the focused development of cell-based and cell-free therapeutic approaches, and the joint implementation of research and development services in clinical research projects.
